GIS #6

Here is some more vocabulary for you to learn:

Attribute data – data that describe the characteristics of spatial features

Geospatial data – data that describes both the locations and characteristics of spatial features on the Earth’s surface

Metadata – data that provide information about geospatial data

Spatial data – data that describe the geometry of spatial features

Here is some more vocabulary for you to learn:

characteristic - a distinguishing feature or quality

feature - a prominent part or characteristic

Geodatabase – an object based data model developed by ESRI

geometry - the mathematics of points, lines, angles, surfaces, and solids

Shapefile – an ESRI data format that for non-topological vector data

GIS #3

Here is some more vocabulary for you to learn:

Geographic information system (GIS) - a computer system for capturing, storing, querying, analyzing, and displaying geographically referenced data

Topology - a subfield of mathematics that is applied in GIS to ensure that the spatial relationships between features are expressed explicitly

Spatial interpolation - a process of using points with know values to estimate values at other points

Vector data model - a spatial data model that uses points and their x, y coordinates to construct spatial features of points, lines, and areas

Raster data model - a spatial data model that uses a grid and cells to represent the spatial variation of a feature

GIS #2

Here is are some vocabulary words for you to learn:

display - to show or exhibit; make visible

store - to put and/or keep data in a memory unit

analysis - a process of studying or examining a problem to get new information from what is already known

grid - a network of horizontal and perpendicular lines, uniformly spaced

explicitly - fully and clearly expressed

capture - to enter data into a computer-compatible format for processing or storage

cell - the smallest unit of information in raster data, usually square in shape.

spatial - of or pertaining to space; related to or existing within space

analyze - to perform an analysis

query - to search for select features or records from a database
